FAQs
Do the watches work?
Yes, all watches listed have been serviced to the best possible working order, consistent with age and use, and with the need to maintain affordability. In general, for old mechanical watches, we use +/- 5-10 minutes per day as the benchmark for acceptable working order, however performance can vary depending on wear and tear, main spring deterioration, lubricant deterioration, and accumulated particulate debris. The main variance we encounter is in the power reserve.
Are the watches authentic?
Yes, the watches are authentic and presented in their most original possible condition. It is important to note, however, that for watches this age, we do sometimes need to replace components like hands, dials, markers, clasps, date wheels, case-backs, etc – and in many cases significant replacements have already been done by the time we source the watch. Where possible, we disclose major changes in the product description, especially for replacement dials. Except for leather bands, almost all replacement parts are Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) items, usually harvested from non-operative watches.
Where are these watches sourced?
Predominantly from vintage markets and second-hand stores in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, where we travel for business. More recently, we have cast our gaze further afield for vintage pieces at garage sales, opp-shops (thrift stores), deceased estates, and online marketplaces in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Europe and the United States.
Do you accept returns if the watch is not working?
Yes, please see our returns policy here. Rest assured, we will do our best to work with you throughout the process to ensure the best possible experience.
Can I come and see the collection and try on the pieces before I buy?
